Looking for some advice. Need to obtain some orange illuminated paint, the sort used on control knobs. Have a couple of spare sets of controls for a 148/360fm but are all odd and don't match up correctly. Any advice or links to get some would be great and well appreciated.

Do you have a model shop anywhere near you? They sell enamel paint a wide range of colours so you should at least get somewhere near what you're looking for. If not eBay. There's plenty for sale on there too.

Here's what I use if the need arises.

Never heard of illuminated stuff. Flourescent or glow-in -the-dark then yes.
As above, the likes of Humbrol or Tamiya etc do a few bright shades of orange if it's just a bright, hard-wearing gloss enamel that you're after.

Don't forget your paint brushes. The cheap ones from Poundland are perfect for the job!

hmm , paint thats a good idea, i remember cutting slithers of red insulation tape and laying in the grooves

Slightly hijacking the tread but still nearly on point, any tips for the plastic chrome work and making that pretty?

A few suggestions:

1: Strip the chrome and paint it whatever colour you want. Otherwise, water-based chrome paint effect is available and good (see youtube).

2: Strip the chrome and re-chrome it.

3: Strip the chrome and gold-plate it.

4: Polish up what you have and maybe re-touch any chips with chrome-a-like paint and a small paintbrush.

5: Buy another nicer chrome surround/set of knobs and replace as needed.

6: Buy a mint version of your radio and sell your tatty one.
