NB/ANL SWITCH ON GALAXT SATURN ???

On my galaxey saturn homebase when i turn the NB/ANL switch on the incoming signal gos up from 0-to 4 when on usb and lsb but not when on AM/FM is this normal , The Saturn is a early Dirland using a EPT360012B board if that helps apart from this it is a great radio far better than any modern radio i have tried , from George

Doesn't sound right . The NB/ANL should really only be noticeable on AM . Might work a bit on SSB . What you should notice is a decrease in noise on AM . It might affect the signal level slightly , but it definitely shouldn't increase the signal from S0 to S4 . Maybe it's been wired up for something else ?

I know there's a mod that can be done to the MK2 148's and 360FM's which produces the same results as you mention George. It's a long time since I've come across the mod I mentioned, but if memory serves it simply requires a 33pf ceramic cap across the back of one of the SSB tuning coils.

Perhaps someone can elaborate more?

Not me ! I've made a few boners recently . Most noticeably by inability to differentiate between a "Superstar 360" and a "Superstar 3600" . I'm going back to re-read The Big Dummys Guide .....

Some pictures of the insides would go a long way . If not then we're just guessing . The main board is similar to the Cobra PB-010 , but with twin finals , bigger regulator , and a few other bits and pieces .

HI SAMMY, i guess it will remain a mystery as the radio has tags on it ,and anyway i would not know how to post photos and i do not own a camera or have a mobile phone that will take photos so as i said a mystery it will have to be.???

Maybe it has an eprom inside? Have you parked it next to another radio so that you can see if it stays on the same channel once the swich is switched?

The ANL is usually the first switch to be used for this purpose.

Surely if the switch moved the frequency/band of the radio that would show up on the inbuilt frequency counter?

I have seen some guys put a preamp in the radio and use the switches to go between the reg receive and the preamp. even other channels as the guys here have mentioned. you need to look close to see if any mods have been done to the radio
