20w harrier cbx mod .

Post by jason »

Having a bordom day so tidied up and found this

Image

Took it apart like you do and thought it will fill the gap at the back of my cbx and also drive a linear amp a bit better :)

And yes after a bit of soldering , drilling and poking it fits and works .
Getting just over 20w with 4w in

Image

Also found a fan and heatsink . Untill something more aestaticly pleasing comes along this heatsink will do

Image

I will tidy it up a bit better when i get a better heatsink

Watcha sticking in the gap down the side of the mainboard? A 6m transverter would be nice.

How do you switch it on/off, Should have removed the big switch and run wires to a front panel switch, Handy that all the components are on solder side too, I have also seen those 20w amps stuck inside Cybernets and on the back of Uniden 300's.

That stainless steel CBX was a larf only the inlay was steel.

Hi Nick.

The on off switch still sits on the pcb as seen . The lid never goes on on this rig as i been playing and trying to learn some things with this one for a year or so .

The switch is always on but will plan to move it to the hi lo at the facia eventually.

Keeps me busy and i enjoy a bit of trial and error .

Little bit more personalising to my cbx . Thought i would add to this thread as i keep adding to the cbx .
This eve i fitted a roger beep that bleeps in the style of knight rider. And a blue led into the signal meter .

I looking at changing out the channel display to blue also but not sure if i need a common anode or cathode one .
Anyway . Useless without pics so here ya go

So the beep works and transmits. But also comes through the internal speaker .
Hmmmmm. I seem to remember something said about getting a relay somehow to cure this problem .

Aye you need a relay to mute the speaker whilst the bleep is sounding, The bleep holds your radios TX wire to ground whilst its activated, Just use the same principle to control a relay and fannys your dad and bobs your wife

Re an on-off switch, pretty sure you are not supposed to simply kill the power on those amps to turn them off. There is some signal routing switching to consider. Maybe a relay as used it some other amps, but bear in mind it's 27MHz RF that is being switched, so random wires to a random relay is not good.
