ground problem ?

Post by nordhavn »

I've got a yaesu 897 with about 30m of wire ran through a 9:1 balun . Swr is great on 20m and a couple of other bands (don't need a tuner) I decided to earth the radio and the balun but the swr went sky high , so high the fc30 wouldn't tune it .... is there any reason for this ?
Cheers

Earth to what? Best to unearth the radio, run a counterpoise from the 9:1 cold side.
And its not a bad antenna, I've worked good 80m with the same
