D TYPE EARPIECE

Post by knight »

I am saving up for the icom id-51e plus 2 radio and I will need a D type earpiece for the unit so I can use with Raynet.

How long a cable will you need ? Will you be wearing the ID-51E on your belt or on your stab vest ?

Good question and I don't know yet so I may need a cable to connect it to the radio and the D type earpiece and that should be more easy.

I've got one of these 'D' earpieces (had it ages) and the lead is 1.5m long with a single mono 3.5mm jack plug. It likes being in the 'ear' socket too, not 'speaker' else it's too loud. If you want to TX as well you'll need a mic, I use an Alinco speaker mic (same pins as Icom) and that has an earphone socket at the bottom (as well as vol control), so I plug the mic into the radio and D earpiece into the mic which works well enough. Something similar could suit your needs, plug 'n play no messin'.

I have had a look round for a D type earpiece and I have found this one at http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/d-shape-ea ... radios.htm so will it fit a Icom id51e plus 2.

That looks the job, just be sure the plug will fit the radio without knobs or aerials in the way. I've got some Baofeng ones with the clear curly earpiece, now they look the biz :D
