Why not get one of those £10 dehumidifiers? I have one for my kitchen and it works a treat, yes u have to replace the inner now and again but I think a bit cheaper than electric.

I had a dehumidifier in my conservatory. It uses quite a lot of leccy, so a very low heater tube (100w?) may be just as energy conscious.

My shack is in a single skinned out house too. Very cold in here but after being in here for a good few years the cold has done no damage at all to my equipment. I just use a few of those Poundland dehumidifiers and they do the job nicely.
