Clear Tetra
Been playing with the new Tetra plugin for SDR# (runs completely under windows without the need for any Linux files).
Is Tetra used at all for commercial purposes?
Basically, is there any non-encrypted Tetra? As so far, even in the 450 MHz band, all Tetra is encrypted in this area so far.
Regards
bozzy

Re: Clear Tetra
The simple answer is yes.....some examples include Cardiff Shopwatch/Stadium, Cabbots Circus Bristol, some Prisons in the SW, Nottingham Trams. I'm sure there are others. The plugin works well: pity it's only single frequency and no logging so far.

Re: Clear Tetra
I've heard that Highland Council Highways use it. It was cheaper to adopt Airwave than build dozens and dozens of their own transmitters to cover their mountainous area.
KEY : = channel/stud | ~ = CTCSS/DCS | ^ = transmitter site | ¯ = overhead | * = trunked

Re: Clear Tetra
I heard something about that too but if they're on Airwave it means they'll be encrypted.

Re: Clear Tetra
Thanks for replies.
Plenty of signals in my area (York) around 390 MHz, obviously Airwave and encrypted (gargled audio).
Got a couple around 450 MHz, but again gargled, was just interested to hear some clear tetra on my setup with this new plugin.
Plenty of clear mototrbo in my area though, just would be nice to see this tetra plugin work with some audio here.
Regards
Bozzy.

Re: Clear Tetra
Just to add for others that may help, who own an sdrplay RSP2.....
The new Tetra plugin will not work with older versions of SDR# (ie using SDR# 1361), an issue with .net versions, I even tried forcing .net versions in the sdr# startup file.
I even tried pumping the audio from sdr-uno via cable into a newer version of sdr#, but it won't work.
Had to re-call my rtl stick from a m8 that I loaned out too,
Plugin appears to work with newer versions of sdr# and an rtl stick, getting data, but all garbled audio in my area.

Re: Clear Tetra
Airwave = encrypted TEA2
Some (if not all) prisons in England and Wales = Encrypted TEA1
Everything else I’ve been told about is clear including London Underground, some airports air radio, some wind farms along with what’s mentioned above.
Airwave use 390-395 and in London and possibly other areas use 422-424 MHz also
Commercial users mainly use 420-425mhz and 440-460mhz
Airwave is the only uk wide network with most others being single cell sites or some multi cell sites but coverage only in the areas they need.

Tyne & Wear Metro is converting to Tetra. About 30 freqs in the 440/441 MHz range. Only a couple of hours from York.

Re: Clear Tetra
Thanks
The frequencies you posted was very useful.
Today I finally found a Tetra signal and it was in the clear and worked fine using the new plugin!

Re: Clear Tetra
Any chance of the location and any information you have found?
Even it’s in a pm.
I’m trying to build a database of users in the uk.

Sharing info via PM is good practice if you think that the organisations being listened to may kick up a stink about it. It protects you and ( more importantly ) Me/TM1 too, so more power to your PM elbows people
