Which Cheap dPMR

Just after a little advice.

I am looking to get a couple of dPMR's for use on 70cm and potentially licenced PMR.

I have been looking around at the reviews here and on youtube and I think the Zastone ZT-9908 is winning at the moment, I can get a pair for £110. The Kirisuns have had some poor reviews but some good, has anyone really used them in anger, they are about the same price but there are many models that spec wise look the same.

So for around £110 I would like 2 dPMR on UHF that will replace my 70cm radio so CTCSS is a must for access to my Simplex Gateway.

What do you recommend have I overlooked something?

Not sure if you mean "DMR" The Motorola Saber Astro can do DMR or so Ive heard but don't quite me on that, do your research... but if these are good on DMR then those would be the cheaper way, you can find them on ebay going for peanuts otherwise I'd recommend the Motorola DP3400 witch you can sometimes find on ebay for under 100 pounds.

No i am looking for dPMR, something cheap really, not to bothered about interoparability on the digital side at this time.

I read this topic and ordered some zastones as a direct result, but three weeks later, it seems the stocks in China have run out and it's not made any longer. My supplier was certain he could get them, but has now given up! Shame.

Just noticed this now. The Astro Saber is a pretty old P25 radio used mainly by police forces in the US, so definitely not a DMR radio. I'm not sure when it came out but I guess it would have been early 2000s.

With tiny ranges and power, and the CTCSS variations - coupled with totally non-technical users, in the busy areas, they just assume the sometimes work, sometimes not performance is normal. If the users are all close together the congestion rarely matters. To somebody with a high up aerial and tunable receiver with CTCSS off, it sounds hectic and overcrowded. To the guys in the sports shop store room, or fast food joint, they don't hear the others.

If you mean the MD380 then that's DMR not dPMR.

If you mean MD3800 then I have no idea what that is.

3 of locally had / have these.

Had problems getting decent examples shipped.

Corroded locking nuts or missing on the SMA sockets.
Broken cases.
Timing errors on the tx or rx, so that half the time the tx was not synched properly.
And all had a problem with the clock, which would go tits up after a day.

Made reading the text messages a pain in the rump, since you had no way of knowing when they arrived, and you often had to
read all of them to see what was new.

And check the box that they come in.

They are all printed as being professiona tranceivers (they couldn't find any letter `l`s in their Chinese John Bull printing set

But when they work they are ok.

I replaced both of mine with a TYT UVF10 dual band DPMR and never looked back.
