Hello Kieran,

I have just fired-up my "UV67_U_V_UV_CPS" to see what happens for me. I plug in the USB lead before opening the programme. My Toshiba NB200 (running XP with SP3) then recognizes the USB lead as being present. The programme says it has COM-1. If I then plug into a radio and attempt to "read" it, it says at the bottom "connected well with radio" or very similar. All then works OK.
The version of programming software I have is V13.03.28, it gives a choice of 16 COM ports. It came from WWW.MIKLOR.COM
Device manager says that the USB lead is:- "Prolific USB-to-serial" even though there are no markings on the lead apart from eight "pimples" on each side of plug that goes into radio to give better grip.
The driver is:- Prolific 2.0.2.1 dated 25/7/2005. This driver is also available from http://WWW.MIKLOR.COM
Apparently this is the only driver that will work with the lead/radio/software.
I have NO connections or interests in the website mentioned.

Hope that may help....

Rob.

thanks for the response rob , my driver is ok i think as when i use the lead with my uv5r if works fine with chirp. if you look at the larger pin on the lead an the larger hole on the radio . the radio hole looks 1mm bigger an is a slappy fit when i plug the lead in, but if i plug it into my uv5r its a perfect fit an downloads from the radio fine.. im beginning to think ive been sold a radio with the wrong size hole if thats possible as all the leads ive seen look like the one i have. does your radio have much play in the larger hole. thanks kieran

Hello Kieran,

I have had a look at the USB lead I am using and it is a slightly-loose but positive locking-fit into both the 2.5 and 3.5 mm sockets on the UV6 radios. I have checked another USB lead (RT3/MD380/Kenwood-type prog-lead) for physical connection with a UV6, same slightly-loose but good connection (that lead cannot be used for UV6 though). Maybe you do have a rogue lead.
Do check the driver though.... Your present driver may work OK with the other radios you have mentioned but my NB200 netbook once unfortunately updated all it's drivers without my knowledge and would not talk to a UV6 radio with the UV6 programming software until I re-loaded the very old driver mentioned above.
Have a look at the FAQs on the Miklor website that deals with driver and other issues....

Good luck,

Rob.

You need the old driver because the Prolific chipset in the cable is a Chinese knock-off, so using Prolifics recent driver won't work because they don't want to support imitations. So if Windows updates the driver, or you use a different USB port, then the cable won't work until the ancient driver is put back in.

hi have tried the old driver still no joy ,wont read the radio. it will work fine on the uv5r as before but wont read the uv6. i still think the hole in the radio is to large the only thing making contact mite be the tip of of lead , its def not touching the sides as it moves about, i have tried holding it all direction but still no joy.

I had a slight difference between 3-R and 5-R with my five quid knock-off cable, the 3-R read fine and the 5-R wasn't recognised, I had to open the gap very slightly between the pins, it was literally a few thou, bend it too far and they'll snap like a KitKat.
