Any Icom Dealer should be able to sort it but the SAR Team will have their own contact within the trade that fettles the comms side

As above, if it was bought from an Icom dealer or hired from an official Icom comms provider then they will load his desired codeplugs FOC on his production of his entitlement to use the frequencies. If it was something bought from an online auction site then good luck. It should come out of the box with the European marine channels pre-programmed.

As it's for a safety-critical role, going through a dealer (or the SAR team's comms bod) to do it properly is the right approach.

The software can be found online with a bit of googling, but it looks like the M73 needs a weird plug on the programming cable

I have a somewhat stupid question - I read the above and discovered programming software for the Icom IC-M3a marine sets I have - could be handy, I thought. I have a bunch of different cables for programming - but then it hit me, The radio does not have a mic or headphone socket. How on earth can you programme a radio with no socketry of any kind?

Where the sockets should be there is a blanking plate, that I don't wish to try to prise off?
EDIT
Discovered the US A version has no sockets, the UK EURO version does! How odd!
