TYT MD380 bonkers idea!

Post by welshevo »

Morning all ... bit of a bizarre project idea...

as i was gathering my surplus gear together i had a great idea now to try and put it into practice :)....

i have an old CM9000 radio body and Control head.... i would love to utilize the control head in some way... so what i thought was this...

Bypass the entire front panel including screen of the MD380 and relay it to the CM9000 control head screen and buttons....

now i know the CM has a 15 pin D-sub (VGA) input connection so all that would need is figuring the pin outs on the MD380 and create an interface cable and then re-box the MD380 , would i need a display control board from the MD380 or could i make use of the Clear-tones input capability's as the screen is bigger than the present MD380... and would make for a nice in car DMR radio which i have the battery eliminator connected :)

any suggestions or thoughts?

it appears a simple ish project but need pin out info... etc etc anyone??

No idea, but good luck. I have a poundshop cellphone holder in my car that takes the 380 nicely and a semi-decent Kenwood speaker mic, works for me.

Pin out shouldn't be too hard, just painstaking. Figure out which pins supply the power then whack a logic analyser on the rest and begin at the beginning, making sure you have plenty of blank pages left in your notepad!

so my first question is ... like Kr0ne states "pin finding" shouldnt be too hard however.... a logic analyzer? a what?? haha i dont have anything like that? so is there a way of using a home brew method without blowing stuff up? or is there somewhere i can take my goodies for someone to work out for me?

i know i wont be getting the nice fancy color but this is what i can imagine :) im gonna do some more digging and see what can be done... but as it stands im guessing i will utilise the CM9000 radio body "box" for the md380 PCBs... and also make use of the COM ports on the radio box and Remote head.... so effectivly i will be creating my very own "cleartone" DMR mobile radio with remote mount kit :D :D :D :D
