{bnghd} Doh... No still snapping on launch... We try again tomorrow. Took the old antenna down earlier. So no wire up at the moment.

That's Eddie the Eagle! or Jeff trying very hard to look like him! :D :D :D :D

Now Eddie would build a ramp and launch himself up there. :)

But when you say the fishing line is snapping on launch, then the reel is wound too tight or the weight is too heavy.
Are you a fisherman or should I say do you fish for fun? if you do you might have two reels and if so 2 rods? try rewinding from one reel to the other in a very even and not two fast way allowing the line to spread evenly over the spool.
if that fails then the line is either very light or but a pair of crampons and a rope and wrap it round the Trunk and get up there! :)

Well the new wire is performing pretty good..
20m - I have an SWR of 1.3
15m - I have an SWR of 1.1
10m - I have an SWR of 1.1
12m - I have an SWR of 2.1
80m - I have an SWR of 1.1
Above figures using the AT-500 tuner of course!

No tuner in line is pretty surprising! 10m = SWR of 1.8
12m = SWR of 2.4
15m = SWR of 2.4
40m = SWR of 2.5

All this on a 16.2 meter end fed antenna and 1:9 balun! Total cost of around $40...

But, I guess the proof is in the pudding. So will test it out in a few days.

No, it is a good idea. I did think of that for the future. There are many place selling fireworks round here.

I believe the snapping issue is down to using braided fishing line. I have used both Braid and nylon line while lure fishing, and have lost many lures using braid. It does not tolerate sharp pulls. Try using a good nylon line instead. It stretches a little so absorbs shock. That should dothe job nicely.

LOL my wife's favourite line!!Seriously tho' it pays to have the line uncoiled and lying on the ground before you launch it.That way there is no tension and less likelihood of it snapping.I did the same sort of thing trying to send a line over my roof and found that it snapped every time.I was using a fishing rod and found that it was the initial inertia of the line on the reel that was causing the problem. I uncoiled about 30' of line,tied a little fishing weight to it, and it sailed over first time.

All sorted now, works real well. No need for tuner on 10/11meters.
