*****TAKE A LOOK**** Here is my first antenna for SDR, dual band dipole build

Postby SDR_learning » 10 Aug 2017, 20:45

HI all, first post here,

Just wanted to upload pictures of my first antenna i made for SDR, its tuned to the pbr bands.

Was made with:

a Portable site light,
2 mop handles
plastic bottle to enable the mop handles to wedge onto the site lamp, also actiing as a protection from short circuit
Choc-o-block with some sky coax core to connect the block to the dipole
and a scrap bit of wood so i can wedge it in my attic.

Cable was the stock one from the sdr unit (nooelec nesdr smart) chopped from the base end

rubber end caps where recycled from the stand of the site light

this was a freebee knock up for internal use only.

I scraped the paint off the mop handle where the cable connects to the mop and sellotaped it in place, ( I know screws with propper terminals woudl work better, but remember the site lamp is also metal and i cannot screw into the end of the antenna

SWR not known because i dont have a swr metre.

Works 100 times better than the stock SDR antenna in the bands in intent to use them on, the stock antenna are poor for my use

Bandwidth should be nice and wide due to the thickness of the mop handles

No slating me i know what a balun is, this is why i never made a off centre dipole and made the cuts as close to the mm as possible

Not bad for a first attempt,

Hope you enjoyed looking at my first dipole, :D

Probably my eyes and camera angle, but if the poles aren't cut in the middle then you have a dead short from radiator to ground.

Sorry for not showing the other side, but this is the light base i used to make the Di-pole from. ITs kind of a H shape whereby the poles attached to the ends of the legs from the base. This is also the reason i never bolted terminals onto the poles, because the light base is metal, ( Dont worry i used a plastic bottle to fill the void space and also insulate the pole form the H base, ( Just in case)

U want bandwidth then u need folded dipoles.

It works, it was free, and its perfect for spyserver, cant go wrong. No need for anything better as my house location is in a basin with terrain all higher around me, so it works, :P
