Taiwan

Post by 163GW »

Radio Taiwan International is on 3.965Mhz (7.20pm) at a staggering +40db signal!!!
Don't be fooled though, it's probably coming from a relay in Europe at that strength!

edit: The frequency was taken over by Radio Australia at 7.30pm....same signal strength.....definitely from a European relay, possibly a BBC relay station within the UK I'd guess, given the signal strength.

If the BBC World Service turns up on this frequency later this evening, then that'll be the answer, eh?

Radiio Australia went off the air here at about 8 o'clock, the end of their transmission to European listeners I guess, I'll have another listen tomorrow and see if the broadcasts from Taiwan and Australia have the same schedule?

Interesting to hear news from the other side of the world though, and their take on things.

Im not sure it'll be a BBC transmitter, they've allready stopped transmitting on shortwave to Europe

You can regularly hear these kinda stations every day, and yeah, alot of them are from relays in europe (i've noticed alot are in germany) they nearly always pack huge signals from massive 100kw+ transmitters with antennas that take up the size of a football pitch lol

Imagine plugging your hf rig into one of those lol

I wish!

That's a good point though. When all the major broadcasters cease using short wave and switch to satellite and so on.......what'll we listen to on short wave? When all broadcast, maritime, aircraft, military and the rest is via satellite........

It'll be a long time coming I guess (we won't be around then) but what will future SWL's have left to listen to?

Only radio amateurs and Cbers.

Just watching Bush on TV drives me mad George!

Why is the US election campaign on OUR news so much then? No mention of the Bengali elections, or the Canadian ones?

Or the Icelandic elections for that matter........now THAT might be interesting!

The Radio Taiwan broadcast mentioned on 3965 comes from Issoudun in France with 250kw power output. Im glad you asked this Leighton as you know this is something that I have a lot of interest in, ie.Broadcast Stations. :-) Please note schedule is due to change at the end of the month to the Winter 2008 schedule which usually means the programming comes forward an hour and some frequencies may also change.
