Does anyone have a tutorial for this job.I've heard its a right pig of a job,but there must be somebody out there thats done it,and lived to tell the tale. Can't understand why Realistic put it in such an awkward position.Would be most grateful for any pointers.

I done it to my old DX-394 a few years back. I no longer have the radio but yes it is a nightmare of a job. The entire front panel needs to be stripped down to get to the battery, When I got to it I soldered 2 wires going to the inside of the radio and connected to a C-MOS battery that way so it's easier to replace again. Be brave and good luck.

I presume it just involves dismantling the front panel screws and bolts. Can you remember if theres any de-soldering or suchlike to be done? Why is it such a pig of a job? I've put new backlights in a PRO-2006 a few times.Would it be worse than that?

It was years ago I done it, The only soldering I can remember doing was when I ran wires from the battery connections inside the radio for the new battery. It's just a fiddly pain in the arse job to do. Like you say Realistic put it in a really stupid place. It's not a hard job but you will need patience, Whiskey and counseling afterwards :D
