I'd love to climb to the top of that, looks fun.

Not so sure about having ruskies with guns chasing me though :)

A bit strange that the Duga-3 in Chernovbyl area is refered to as "Russian" nowadays. It must be Russian tourists trying to *i** off the locals.
This site is in Ukraine and was never a part of Russia (, Soviet yes but not Russia).

Remember this so you apply for the correct visa if you plan to go there.

I clearly remember the Dugas when listening to the shortwave in the 80's: sometimes it was just like hearing a Huey helicopter!
Quite amusing for a kid!

Erm... the Chernobyl region was taken from the Lithuanians by the Poles in the 16th Century, annexed by the Russian Empire in the 18th century and didnt become "Ukranian" until about the mid 1920s!

The transmission was known as the Russian woodpecker long before any westerners knew about the DUGA-3 array rogerbeep. ;)

It is (or certainly was) in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, so although an awesome sight from afar, I wouldn't want to get too close to that part of the world myself.
