Can anybody identify this ...?

Post by bigbassman »

I bought this little item off Ebay years ago and I'm darned if I can remember what it is.Its made by a company called S.E.M. Union Mills,Isle of Man.Can any one tell just by looking, what it is?It may be a pre-amp but I'm not sure.Power (12v) is via a phono socket.Any pointers would be appreciated.PS the blue on-off switch was put there by me.Many thanx.

Cheers Crusty, thats what I thought it might be.Can you tell by its innards or do you just recognise it for what it is? I'd be interested to know.

Based on the BFR90 transistor (transition frequency of 5GHz+), small ferrite transformer, general layout. Fairly representative of VHF construction of the time. Have you tested it out at different frequencies?

Someone re-soldered the coax shield, something I've had to do with my SEM Multi Filter. :) Had a few bits of their kit. Their later stuff seemed to skip the labeling dep't for some reason, and the solder joints always needed attention.

It seems to work OK on airband Crusty, which is my main interest anyway. If I can get a suitable 12v outboard battery fitted it'll do for outdoor workat some stage.Thanx for your input.Much appreciated.
