Hello all,
Interested in getting into the high frequency band, USB,LSB CW etc for listening/scanning and wonder what sort of kit/scanner/receiver I will need for this?,

Currently I use a PSR-295 for my general scanning use but have been told that this is no use and I would need a long or short wire for for hf?

Would want to listen into raf lossie, sar etc also

Any pointers or advise would be great
Thanks

I think that's just a VHF and above receiver that you have there, so you will need a new radio as well as a wire (long or short)...

How much cash have you got to spend?

Hi,
Yes, I believe this scanner does not receive below 25mhz
Budget wise i am open to ideas, maybe upto a couple of hundred but not too sure as i am not really familliar with kit in this side of things.

Thanks.

If you are looking to cover HF then my personal experience is to purchase a dedicated HF receiver such as the Tecsun PL-660 which performs very well and at a cost of around £75-100, as for the VHF UHF the scanner you have is ideal for anything above HF 50Mhz+ as most of the conversations are in FM.

Long wire antennas can be any length you choose and ideally terminated with a balun to allow the miss-match to be brought nearer to the 50 Ohms, please be aware that a really long length can overload the receiver and the attenuator will need to be used.
