antenna for ICOM ICR 71

Post by caring »

Hi all

after coming on this forum to ask a couple of questions about PMR radios and after reading many of the topics
I have now decided to get serious :?

I am hoping to do my foundation soon and am negotiating on purchasing a ICOM ICR 71 to start having a listen.

I dont think the long wire type antenna will be suitable as my garden is criss-crossed by overhead cables.
Would the Wellbrook Active Loop Antenna ALA1530 be a good starting antenna. It seems that I could easily loff mount it and it would cope with the interference that no doubt I would get from the cables in the garden??

cheers

If you're about to go for your licence why not buy a transceiver and save yourself the hassle of buying twice?

The Wellbrooks are a nice antenna but i would also get an antenna that you can transmit on, see MFJ Magnetic Loops, or rig up a long wire in the attic space or around the house guttering.
