Remote Control

Is there an idiot proof way of setting up remote control of your HF rig? I have a Yaesu FTDX 1200 with the USB computer interface module and I want to be able to control it and use it from another part of my house which is on the same wireless network. I have read various articles but I can't seem to find anything really simple. I don't want to fork out for software unless I absolutely had to. Has anyone found a good solution?
