Zello Android app.(pTT over GSM)

Hello Chaps,

Not sure if this is the right section to make this post really...but here goes...

Just installed the ZELLO Android app.on my mobile phone....and tested it out with a fellow radio enthusiast..and I must say it's a nice little quirky pTT smartphone app.that works a treat...it obviously relies upon the GSM cellular mobile phone infrastructure to work.....using your phone tariff data allowance,but nonetheless it quite a cool app. even though its only half-duplex mode.

Costs nothing really...so try it out..just a bit of fun really.

These app writers need to add an authentic touch, a half second .wav file of a squelch burst when letting go of the 'ptt'.

Had a go with this, but on my phone [HTC Desire GSM] when I test it with the echo user, my voice is barely audible above the background noise of the office. I don't think I would be able to use it for its intended purpose with my phone if what other people hear from me is anything like I hear when I use the echo test.

Edit:

Played with the mic/speaker sliders a bit and it's slightly better. Perhaps the app could use some DSP to eliminate "noise".

I discover this app earlier today and so far I'm liking it!

I went on some random "uk" and "London" channels and there some interesting folk on there lol!! Some if the conversations/abuse was similar to when I've been scanning pmr446 and some repeaters...

I like that's it's cross compatible with lots of devices, and I saw on youtube that that the company. Behind it have a corperate version that connects and transmits over VHF or UHF

I might give this a go, not overly worried about the data usage because I have got an "all you can eat" data package.

Found one called Transmission but not sure if it is the same/right one.

I just tried it and went on first time.

Just click "add channel" search "transmission" and find "transmission1"
