What's your fave old school multimode radio

I have really enjoyed navigating around my Linc 1.
I can see why it's a icon ,simple to use easy on the eye .

I like it a lot.

Years ago I had a hygain 5 but didn't find it easy ,I can't remember why maybe it's the frequency display or lack of.
I will be adding a couple more ssb multimode radios to my collection soon and have been smitten with the ss 3900f or ss 3900 in black.

But what are your favourite multimode radios and why,is it looks, build ,reliability desirability .

Uniden PC122, President Jack. I do not care about additional bands.

Ham International Concorde (that's the Mk1) love the look, love the sound and back in the day they were the dogs danglies. I had to have one and paid £175 in 1980/81 (what's that in todays money - eek), that's with a discount, lol. I've still got one today (did have two) but not the same one. I just like them, I can't help myself

Mine was the hy gain 5 (2795 dx ) I made more contacts with that than any other radio .

Cobra 2000gtl and a colt 1600dx then i enjoyed using the ts788dx had so many but theses are the ones with most fun worked the world with them

I like most Unidens, the 360FM, Jack and Grant (PC-999) being my favorites. Not a huge fan of Cybernets but my old Tristar 797 did work well.
Not so keen on Lincolns or Jacksons due to the slightly crap AM, and also FM bleedover can be an issue (I live near a popular DX spot)

I like early Superstar 3900 type radios as well.

Difficult one this as had so many back in the day. My first one was a Tristar 777 that had been modded, flicking switches I didn't know where I was going, good radio. For a favourite it's between the Stalker 9 or Cobra 148 and my choice is a standard Mk2 snake.

I def want a superstar 3900 f .
I may look at another hygain 5 ssb model . Pc122 looks nice too.

The grants again I like too.

I do like the look of some of the ham international models also.but I think I would go for quality over look .then again it's looks that get me hooked at present not having had anything else to compare too besides link 1 and hygain 5 ssb version dx is it ?.

Stalker look nice too in a vintage radio way.

To answer a bit more of your original post the Uniden boarded radios (Cobra 148 / Superstar 360FM, Stalker 9 etc) imo were always the bees knees of sidebanders back in the day. They had their knockers that compared to the Cybernet board ones they were 'deaf'. Indeed I liked the Cybernet ones for being more sensitive and crisper audio but in a crowded 1980's CB area that I lived in it had to be Uniden board radios, plus they were easier to work on - again imo. Hygain 5, Nato 2000 - liked the roger bleep on them.

I had a hygain 5 multimode, it was in beautiful nick too with a variable power control on back .
I'm sure it had a secret channel too ?.

To be fair I didn't get on with it but that was me really not knowing the frequencies or having a chart.

My v first radio was hygain 2 40am.
I'd like one for nostalgia maybe.

The cobra never appealed to me,still doesn't but I can appreciate it.back in the a.m days they were the bees

Had lots of presidents and stalkers back in the day, cobra 148 gtl dx was overpriced even then, but was the king of sales. Had lots of cybernets as they were always easily available and lots cheaper. Still got a good few of both types today, in regular use when the skips running. My fave is midland 7001, only the baby one. As i never had a mk3.
