Is it located close to trees get wet?
Did you make drain hole in the bottom as I mentioned earlier?
Waterproofing joints was wasted time and effort anyway.

Hi Chris the drain holes were there anyway on my version. No trees anywhere near the antenna just the supporting pole. Will take down the antenna when next dry day and hopefully find where is getting in but again everything was particularly well protected as far as I could see.

Unplug from radio, take multimeter, Ohm range, one probe to coax shield, another to inner conductor. What DMM shows?
Is SWR all the way bad, or going higher freq is getting better?

Okay thanks as I say will check it out next dry day. Not sure if the plastic see thru column protecting the coil itself is maybe requiring waterproofing ? The swr is rising as you go up the band but this was the case anyway but obviously not as much as this until today's rain. Anyway bands are quiet anyway so not missing a lot anyway !! Thanks again.
