What do you mean . Things to look out for ? When not to buy one ? Also . I presume you mean the 360FM , as the 360 is a different radio altogether .

Sort of in a date order and where they were made,
And yes what to expect and look out for.

The 360FM was made from 1980 , to 199? something and has a Uniden board . Made predominantly in Taiwan , and a few later models made in the Philippines . 2 versions . Early (PC-879) and Lates (PB-010) , and there are also variants of these main pcbs as well . The Earlies were made in 1980 , and some carried over to 1981 . After that was the Late 010 pcb . Good radios , and still well respected .

The 3900 is another matter . Ranger made EPT36XXXX labeled pcb. First one was made in 85 (Taiwan) . Then later models made in the Philippines , Malaysia , and then China . They're still being made today . There are countless other radios that use this EPT board (Galaxy/Jopix etc) , and there are a tonne of variantes , with echo , counter , twin finals ... etc . Buy a Taiwan model , or a Philippines model , if you can find one . Stay clear of the Malaysian and Chinese versions .

There's some usefully information here .

Sammy you are a Superstar,

Thank you for your troubles.
I do own a 360 and a 360fm,
And last night I was going through some of my 3900's which one is a Philippines version and one is a Taiwan version and I am guessing that another one is the China version as it has the frequency counter port.
But thanks again

No problem . The 360 predates them all . Made in 1979 . Taiwan with PC-593 pcb . 3 bands . FCC and 2 10m bands as standard . Has the little Xtal board mounted on the side . I have 2 and they're one of my favourite radios

Some of the Malaysian 3900 radios have the counter connector on the back as well . It should be labelled with the country on the back .

If you have a Phillippines made 3900 , then I'd keep it , as I don't think you'll find a better model than that . I have an early 86 version with the EPT360011Z pcb which performs really well .

There's some Superstar info here .

Get a 2nd mortgage if you decide to collect them all :)

I've got a 3900HP made in Taiwan. Superb radio. I have a Sadelta Nevada Coppa which runs the same PCB, also a good radio.

With the 3900's it's basically a case of the earlier the better. The latter ones (made in China) are terrible cheap radios although the EL version does look nice with its Nightwatch display.

The first MK2 360FM's had the PB010/AA PCB. This changed to the PB010/AB after a relatively short production run. Some of the AB models had two crystals and two rows of tuning cans (as opposed to one can and one row of coils). This version covered part of the 10M band as the original none FM version did.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...
