Thank Claude,
If I ever have it apart again I'll send you some pics. Unfortunately when you lift the lid off, you're presented with only 2 grey metal boxes with lots of wires. One box is a standard ATX computer power supply, the other box is the rig itself. The problem is that to open the box containing the rig, you have to partially dismantle the frame of the homebase, as well as disconnect around a dozen fragile plugs from the board. I did this yesterday and it took me the best part of an hour to remove the bottom case from the rig, then I had to partially rebuild it and plug all the wires back in, just so that I could adjust the VR for the S Meter. Then of course remove it all again so that I could refit the (inner) bottom case...
It seems to perform well enough but it's a really badly thought out radio!
That's the later "crappy" model . Malaysia , or China . Uses the PC ATX PSU , and the DIMMER does the bands . I had one briefly , but got shot of it .
If I were you I'd do the same . Stick with the older TAIWAN models m8 .
Also be careful with the Galaxy Pluto's. The earlier version used a Dirland board and was very good. The later version used the crappy CRT 3900 board and wasn't a patch on the earlier version.
They're both easy to identify and distinguish between. The good version has "GALAXY PLUTO" above the meter's. The later crap version instead has "CRT G. PLUTO" above the meter's.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!
Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Yes the export mod on them makes the dimmer switch turn the channel selector into a band selector, very strange set up. Were these sold as 40 channel 10 meter rigs as standard?
Reading the thread in your link, mine is doing just 4 and 10 watts as well. I found the power output VR for FM but at the max setting it would only manage 6 watts. They might have limited the power output because of the low current PSU? Worth noting also that it's only running on 12v rather than 13.8.
I'll keep hold of it for now as it works fairly well. I've not made an SSB contact on it yet but the locals on FM say it sounds really good.
This was the thread that I was originally looking for . Looks like it should be 10m as standard

Just won 2 pretty rare, mint and boxed Kaiser 40ch FM handhelds on fleabay for just £21 and £3 postage.
They'd have got a lot more for them if they hadn't had the auction ending mid-afternoon while most people were at work and unable (or forgot) to bid
Well, they turned out to be not such a bargain as they both have faults. One seems to hum on receive and the other won't "lock on" to my signal from channel 30 upwards (had that on an Amstrad years ago), so they both need a tweak which is beyond my capabilities. It's a shame as they are pretty much mint too. I'll resell them at some point.
this Lafayette LM 300, been looking for ages for one at a reasonable price

Buying and hoarding CB radio's is an illness

Fozzy Bear dont care ya know, so er thats the story!
I bought a chrome-plated effect plastic magmount and swapped the mounts over so it'll now take my Amstrad aerial. Flogged the old small mag on ebay with the new so239 mount on it so got a fiver back.
Last week I got a clean working fidelity 1000 off Ebay for £9.99 as I've never actually owned one, got 2 Gecol's here but I guess they don't really count as the holy grail.
Well , I haven't paid for it yet . Negotiations are on-going .
