What on earth could this be
I found this fidelity 1000 on the boot sale for a fiver, on the back there’s a switch, roger beep I thought, all it does is make a whining sound when switched on, thought I’d have a look inside an found this board taped up and rigged up to the switch with loads of wires, oh the rig works fine with the switch off, wad ya rekon lads?

The SL1496C is a balanced modulator, so it could be a SSB board.

The words "Fidelity 1000" and "works fine" do not belong in the same paragraph.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!
Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Double balanced modulator IC could be a voice inverter/scrambler, There's no filters for it to to be an rf speech processor.

I cannot think of any other reason, unless it is to improve bleedover rejection

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Re: What on earth could this be
The deal clincher at the boot sale was that it was mounted on one of them plastic rig stands you could buy years ago, must of been someone’s pride and joy back in the day
