Is there a legal, type-approved set?

Post by g0slq »

As in the U.K. 40 FM plus the CEPT band with AM & SSB? with correct power outputs.

As opposed to export radios which can of course cover these and more.

The most obvious one is the President Grant 2, but there are others.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Type Approval was abolished in 2001.

Manufacturers now have to self certify their own compliance.

Mate of mine just bought a President Trump (Grant) 2.SOOO complicated to use it's stupid!!Go old school and get a SS3900 or if you can afford it a 148 GTL-DX.Do just as much as the Trump (Grant) but who needs 25 Mhz and 30Mhz unless you have a Ham licence,Even then just below and above 25-30 Mhz is a big NO-NO

Albrecht AE7500 is a "legal" set as standard, but can be easily modified for extra coverage.

TBH don't most if not all the new so called legal AM/FM/SSB radios can be modified for extras /export mode anyway , so really there isn't any 100% legal radios as such about , and TBH who gives a to55 now anyway, I've always used used old skool stuff anyway

I have all those and many more. Hence just was curious if there was one specifically for the UK as always looking for a new toy or something different.

Not sure about the last bit 24.930-24.990 was fine on my 2590DX mobile ;)

The VAG multimode can detect when it's being inspected by OFCOM and defaults to CEPT FM only, at 3.7 watts 8) :)
