Postby knight » 20 Apr 2017, 12:23

I am looking to save up for a CB radio on the uk band as well as using it for 25.555mhz to talk to other people round the world. I like ideas so I can then buy it or one like it when I have the money.

Hi Knight .

I think you meant UK + 27.555 .

There are loads of options open to you . The first question I would ask you would be , do you want to buy an old 80s/90s radio , or a new one ? That will narrow the list down a lot .

It also depends on how much you are willing to spend, don't forget to roughly split your budget in half, 50% for the radio and 50% for the feedline and antenna.
And don't forget that using the UK bands on a radio that is capable of using 27.555 is technically illegal, not that's it's any of my business, just saying so as you know.

Hi knight. Well if I were you I'd play it safe and buy one of those Anytone 5555 v6 radios. They are reasonably priced and will cover all The frequencies you need. On top of all that there's a lot of guys on here who know the radio , and how to program it. On that point , you'll need to buy a programming cable for it too.

As above, the Anytone 5555 and all of it's clones fits your agenda very well, it's not the greatest 11m radio ever made, but it is one of the most versatile, and pretty reasonably priced these days for new and second user. And one of the beauties of modern surface mount sets is that there's very little for the screwdriver brigade to mess up.
If you fancy a bit of old school Cybernet then Black Spirit has a very tempting Nato2000 in the for sale section right now. And if it has come from him then you have peace of mind that it's going to work better than it came out of the factory 35 years ago.

There was a seller on ebay doing the CRT Superstar 6900N version of the Anytone for £120 all in the other week.

i personally think it looks better as it has the blue displays.

The CRE-8900 is also £132 all in at Radiozing, and they are a great set as well for the money.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.
