The Sony micro system I bought in 2005 has DAB and is still providing hours of listening pleasure. Some stations are lower quality than others, but my favourite stations all sound crystal clear. :D
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

DAB+, which uses AAC+ is not transmitted in the UK. We're stuck with MP2 due to the cost of upgrading the infrastructure.
DRM is not looking particularly hopeful. It's technically quite good but end users are not prepared to pay for the high cost of receivers. With most AM an SW listeners being in the non-industrialised world, the cost becomes even more prohibitive.

Oh, I assumed that the newer radio I was talking about was receiving DAB+ because an older radio in the same room couldn't receive anywhere near as many stations. Maybe the older radio is just rubbish, although it is a proper Sony stereo not just like a really cheap radio.

Its all about money, aint that true!

I still think they'll have a massive job on their hands getting rid of either, just think of how many cars have AM/FM radios alone!

If it's not broke, don't fix it

......just flog it.

Meaning?

It may or may not happen, my opinon is that it will not. DAB is awful but the only post I have seen of yours does actually support DAB, or rather DAB+ which to be honest I do not think will come to fruition over here. DAB is bloody awful, I think that is enough to kill DAB+ off before it even gets started.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but interesting to see where we are some 2 years after the predicted end-date :-D

Both going strong. I bought a Roberts DAB/FM set to futureproof myself but use it mostly on FM.

Bugger - I've just made switch-off more likely, haven't I?

AM/LW no loss imo. FM switch off won't happen until proper digital coverage and good range of quality consumer goods available. In the home the options for receiving radio stations are plenty. Aside from an obvious radio / hifi there's internet based, cable, or satellite. We sometimes listen to radio via Freesat if can’t be bothered with what’s on the box.
