That's something I'd be interested to know too. Presumably they say not to use it while charging because the charger cannot supply sufficient current for full tx power, but if the battery still has some charge remaining then is this still an issue?

If you TX on the VX-7 while its plugged into the mains changer, it will turn off as far as i remember. If you hooked it up to a better PSU, like a 5 amp job, it should be fine. Oh and it will run fine for monitoring on the charger.

I'm not sure you'd get the full TX power. As mentioned above the psu doesn't have sufficient current to drive it.
I'm sure i remember years ago trying to power a handheld cb from a plug in adaptor and it gave a horrible buzzing over the audio too from the crappy adaptor.
I personally wouldn't bother...just keep it charged up lol or buy a proper psu for it.

That will happen, you don't need clean DC to charge a battery but you do to power a radio. The chargers will be very simply rectified and have a high ripple on the supply which gives you the buzz on your audio.5thElement wrote: I'm sure i remember years ago trying to power a handheld cb from a plug in adaptor and it gave a horrible buzzing over the audio too from the crappy adaptor.
Get a spare battery so you can use the radio while the spare is charging, or get a mobile 2/70cms rig to run off a psu, or run the handy of a psu and leave the battery charging.

i to remember trying to use a radio while charging and just getting a humm over the transmission, but that was a super cheap radio
cheers guys, i will have a go at the psu jobby

Re: Yaesu VX-7R charging and using at the same time
Now that people mention it, I remember trying to use a handheld CB on the charger and getting a horrible buzzing noise on the tx audio from power supply ripple too, but that was 20 years ago and the old memory needs a little nudge. Also, its been displaced by more recent memories of being able to use mobile phones while on the charger. Maybe they automatically disconnect from the charger while you're making a call, which would be a good system for radios rather than switching off when you try to use them.

Re: Yaesu VX-7R charging and using at the same time
well im still yet to try the charger, but i think i will hold the idea,
what im using it for the radio will be transmitting/recieving quite a bit, now i test ran it the other day just on battery and the radio gets to hot. think im going to have to invest in another base/mobile unit

Ooh yeah they do get hot dont they. Nice in the winter when i was dog walking tho
Sounds like something a little more substantial would be better for you, you can often pick up 2M mobile rigs on ebay for next to nothing.

Sadly good advice is not so good on an 8 year old thread, and even less so when the OP hasn't logged in for 3 years, he's either sorted it, given up or died whilst waiting.

I guess they could have been sent an email to any replies to this thread if they subscribe to it?
I very much doubt it though?
It probably blew up and took him out!
