I have downloaded a 'Sound modem' to decode packet radio. I have received a lot of stuff, but mostly APRS stuff. Is there any point in rigging something up so so I could TX?
What would be the point?

Re: Packet radio
The point would be that you can have a station in standby and work as a digipeater even when you are not sitting at the radio. This will increase interest in packet radio since there would be one more station out there.
Other than APRS, which is already quite versatile, you can have more than one program using the same soundmodem or use a packet switch like BPQ32 to use more than one program at once with the radio. You could have, for example, a digipeater, iGate, APRS client, weather station, mailbox/BBS and chat all on one radio - and you can leave it running while doing other things.
