Hi Gents,
A query for you chappies in the York area. Can someone confirm whether Transdev York, Yorkshire Coastliner or Harrogate & District bus operators are using voice comms in your neck of the woods, or just the GPS signal on the busnet ? Any info much appreciated. Not bothered regarding First as they are on own net.

Thanks in Advance.

A lot of activity on pmr 446 channel 1 (446.00625) round and about york area I believe there only amateur users but was unable to confirm who they actually were but I did hear them talking about setting you the mobile station for range as they were moving further away from each other then they mentioned about changing channel to 6 but never did. worth listening in on as some of it was quite interesting especially to say they were on an open channel

Thanks Scanhermit for the reply. A friend of mine travelled on the 36 service from Leeds to Harrogate and told me there were pmr type noises coming from the drivers cab en-route. I took the opportunity to visit Harrogate myself a couple of weeks back and also did not get any close calls . I also noticed that the inspectors used mobile phones to communicate. no aerials evident either. I know that H & D are on busnet but only using the GPS component. The fact that my friend who is experienced also in radio matters heard what he thought was a trunked system, had me dashing there in hope. I thought maybe they had gone on a Harrogate Council net maybe. It would seem a waste if they did not use the voice element of the busnet, but then again at what cost.
Thanks for the info.
Rgds,
Alan

I'd hate to say that the buses here don't use voice comms. It's just that I've never heard them. I could, of course, not be listening on the correct crews. Do you know which ones they are supposed to be using? If it's 174-225mhz I'm afraid that my xlt125 won't cover it.

I heard a burst of the University Of York Students Union (453.9500) from near Wetherby - about 16 miles radius. I'm often impressed by how far comms designed for a relatively small site get out.

Very strong signal in york. Also I've heard their radio systems on when there seems to be an event. A few months ago I think there was some sort of show going on at the university and the radio systems were in constant use in the evenings apart from the events and stuff the radio systems seem to be dead.

The studios at the new campus are on one of the UHF light channels. If I have the scanner on in the office I can hear em loud and clear.

453.900 is used by Securitas Security in Wetherby so most likely that is what you are picking up.

Sounds more likely, though those on the air sounded more like callow youths than hairy-arsed security guards :D
