Emergency monitoring groups?

Post by AxleJack »

37 years eh? Who would have thought it? :D

I am attempting to track down what happened to all the CB Emergency monitoring groups which were active in the UK in the 1970s and 80s. Can anyone advise? Give websites?

I am particularly interested in one of them which gave up with CB and started doing much more on its own private frequencies. Mountain rescues and such. I saw their website a few years ago and now I cant find it. Or remember which group it was.

Thanks all.
Cheers from Jack.

I think that the mobile phone negated the need for CH9. Perhaps the one in particular that you are interested in has a website or contact number that would answer your question, Google rescue groups in the area and see what comes up, they may of had a name change since.

Perhaps have a look at old CB Radio sew-on patches and badges etc, as they used to have some named on them.

There's a North Somerset group that help out the police around here, helping people get to work in the comm's buildings, or taking food and supplies to workers that are snowed in and can't get home, or do desperately need to get home.

I can't remember their name though annoyingly, but they were at a show we held at our local station a month or so ago.

Edit: Can't find any on ebay at the mo, but there were a couple of UK-based R.E.A.C.T. ones a while back. You may find some info in the early radio mag's too, probably up to about 1985.

Thanks for that. REACT, THAMES and REVCOM I knew. MSGB is a new one.
REVCOM have a website, which hasn't been updated in 5 years and is mainly faulty links.
One of them had a superb website which i saw a few years ago. They had moved on to other voluntary work but had a short mention of their CB heritage. Unfortunately I cant find the website or remember which organisation it was. (DOH!)

Quick question from someone who has lived outside the UK for almost 19 years...
Whats the difference between RAYNET and RAEN? Competing societies? or complimentary?

From memory RAYNET and RAEN were competing entities, something to do with RSGB support.. :(
