Competition Time.

Post by The Collector »

My Stalker ST9F-DX arrived today and before I test things, I always look carefully at what I've bought.

Can you spot the mistake on the attached picture?

I know it's difficult, but please have patience. You may have to use Google or consult an encylopedia, but hopefully you'll get it before the weekend's out.

Answers on a postcard please, and the first correct answer drawn out of a hat will win something really shi**y and rancid from my kitchen food bin ;)

The fuse holder was holding on by just 2 strands and it had a 20amp fuse in it. Jeez. If I hadn't noticed...POP!

It's a 12V cross-over lead, positive to negative, negative to positive.

They may have been confused by the red line that's left on the black when the wires are peeled apart, but they should have then seen they'd suddenly got 2 reds and sussed it out. Or, maybe they'd had a few too many beers whilst messing with it in the shack one weekend :)

Either way, I'm going to need a new power lead for it to save faffing about. I will rectify it at some point when I've nothing to do and keep it for emergencies.

Looks dandy to me, this is how you connect center pin negative jacks and test out reverse polarity protection. :D

I'd be willing to bet that power lead was used on an old President AR7 or the GE equivalent.

Trust us to get a slightly pervy answer! (didn't spot that myself ;) ).

It's a good job my "Nigella Lawson cooks Naked" book wasn't on show in the background. It's usually open on page 17 where she's pictured bending seductively over a sausage-making machine with her hands pumping away at the meat ;)

The amount of the GE equivalent of the AR7 i have had that has had the MB3712 audio amp blown because someone bought a replacement lead and it popped the radio.

There are a few of these 3 pin Uniden leads where the polarity in the plug is the wrong way round [Positive to the two pins closest together] A member here i know found out the hard way, So if anyone does buy a new 3 pin lead always test it before plugging it in.

Ahhh... I see, like the later new Amstrad-compatible leads that were the wrong way round a couple of years back. I remember putting a warning up on here about them at the time after buying one and luckily noticing.

I can double-check and replace the wiring right up to the plug and cover any original colours showing with heatshrink tubing then.

Cheers guys ;)
