Sirio 3/4/5000's modulators and others that are similar. Basically, anything bigger than a K40 should be better (we don't count 5ft Springer/Stinger aerials though ).

Pound for pound you won't beat a Les Wallen modulator imo unless you want to drive about with a large antenna.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

I use the K40 fiberglass antennas my self. it is 4 foot adjustable SWR. called the flex whip. has the lowest SWR for my setup compared to other antennas and has held up for 10 years so far.

They're expensive if you haven't already got one.prettypolly wrote: ↑10 Jun 2018, 12:28 Ok thanks ill give it ago just got to find a mag mount for it .
You need both the hatchmount and magnet (fits inside it) so be careful if just a magmount is advertised.

Yeah, that chrome hatch-mount slots inside the K40 magnet piece (called a Magnamount I think) and bolts in place. They're not bad aerials and I owned one from about 1980 which I sold a coyple of years ago, along with its magnet.
I currently own a Tagra t40 which is almost identical, but with a better locking system.

The pic above is the tagra with the rotating collar that shoves ball bearings out to lock onto the mount,
like pedigree & winalot dog food its the advertising that sells them,
k40 feels good quality because the coil is half embedded in solid plastic,
the no taper whip is top heavy & flops around when on the move more than tapered whips,
k40 magnet is strong for its size but lacks surface area for good capacitive coupling to the bodywork, size matters,
they have a small ceramic disc capacitor that blows if you use high power,
captive coax sucks, unlike sirio & wilsons you can't change coax if it gets damaged,
any of the sirio antennas from ml145 upwards or wilson 1000/5000 will outperform the k40,
my valor 520 halfbreed on limpet magmount has the edge when stationary and on the move over both of my k40 mag mounts at a fraction of the price,
probably the best looking & most convenient to remove in a hurry but most expensive & worst performing antenna of its length,
ask an american cber what they think of the original k40, you won't get an answer like the adverts claim .

Re: K40 antenna any good
I have a K40 whip and coil here without a proper mount which I have been trying to give away for ages. If anyone wants it and can collect from West Oxon you are welcome to it.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Re: K40 antenna any good
No theres no coil in the conical mount, we had the chrome cone 3/8 adaptors so we could try other antennas on the k40 mount, no idea where they went.

Haha, I hadn't noticed it was a t40 pictured lol, just looked at the chrome bottom I'm still trying to get a magmount for my t40, although I doubt I'll ever use it.wa10 wrote: ↑11 Jun 2018, 22:12 The pic above is the tagra with the rotating collar that shoves ball bearings out to lock onto the mount,
