Where to sit on ssb.

Post by sureshot »

So didn't think this quick question belonged in the 11 meter DX thread.
So if I was to sit on ssb, where or what frequency would yield the best results ?
I've often heard people mention the 555, but is there any other known calling channels on ssb. Flicking round or scanning is hit and miss, and 9/10 the scan hits a noise channel and locks on that. Just wandering if I've missed anything with regards to ssb calling channel activity.
I'm right on the door step to Europe, on a clear day I can see the French cliffs. Thought I'd of heard a bit more activity by now. :)

Band is dead anyway, but I would stick to 27.385lsb for NA and 27.555usb for worldwide.

9 times out of 10, 27.555 is where I will listen.

If the skip is running then you will hear it there, and you can always move around afterwards.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Not SSB, but when there's a good run on with the propagation 27.025 AM (the "superbowl") is a great place to hear the states.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Thanks for the frequency info, as new to ssb I've had a local bash at it. That worked great, but I'm yet to hear from across the UK or abroad. I will persevere with it though, there's got to be a lift out there soon.

Don;t forget that the UK calling is on 27.275 USB. May be worth keeping an ear on from time-to-time aswell.

27.455 high band was a calling channel many many years ago and gets used now and then thats why the alfa tangos made 555 their calling channel but everyone followed suit also when ssb became legal on the mid band the alfa tango calling ch was decided to be 27355 but nobody actually uses it they prefure to be illegal i guess
also the lr group tend to use 560 just to be akward and i think theres a usa group uses 590 or 580 , and loves to shout over ses`s that use the freq even very rare ones too
on air, tyne&wear, northumberland, durham, holy island,eu120+eu124 and anywhere from gateshead/north wales
scrap uk 40 give cbers L/M/Hcalling on 27.355/555 usb qsy 27.015 lsb/410 usb cb radio is for life not just for profits
i do cb radio not 11mtres,countrys worked 2015 with imax 2000 72

Yes I've heard this somewhere, something to do with solar cycle or something like that.
Thanks for the frequency info from everyone, I will write this down and spend some time on each one see what results I get.
I'm at a disadvantage with a mobile antenna Sirio 4000, but I'm on the 14th floor top of a tower block. You can see the high rise way back towards the M2 and roads that lead up to I it. On a clear night I can see Clacton and southend, I think it's that.
It very quite across the band's it seems at the moment.
See if I can fire a second radio up, lots of others have multiple radios running, should be able to set up a second rig. :)

Its not about the size of your twig, its about how you use it.....

You can work DX on wet string, no need to be negative about what antenna someone uses. Don;t all have the space, money or good neighbours to have a 5 ele yagi @ 20m. We make do with what we have.

In early 90's sure. Now we can only dream about that even at the maximum of the cycle. It's not gonna happen again.
