How long is a piece of string mate?

Do you want homebase or mobile set?
FM only, AM/FM multistandard or SSB?
Legal or not so legal?
CB or HF set?

Where is the antenna going, roof, tower, loft etc?

How much do you have in your budget?

Hi pal

Well first I have a 12 meter tower so antenna can go on there

And im looking for something homebased for the shack at the bottom of the garden.
I would like something to enjoy so something multiband.

Budget is a healthy one :D upto 4 figures if need be could be used (just means her in doors will have to get something a bit more special lol )

With those types of options I'd be looking to buy some ham radio gear , and use it just on the CB bands .

I dont mean 4 figures just for the rig I mean for everything that would make up a great base.
Ive seen some rigs at £250+ thats why ive saved up that much.

Just to state the obviously, with CB gear, unless you know the person or they have a great reputation, then second hand gear should be assumed as being knackered.

I would rather buy a second user HF set than spend £200-£300 on a new CB, but that's me.

My main set is an Icom 706Mk2G. Widebanded it basically covers 1-500Mhz, it ain't much use on 4m, but HF, 11m, 6m, 2m and 70cm are excellent, and I can have some fun on 446 and UK simple stuff as well. I got mine for £250 as it was a bit rough, a tidy one should be around £300-£350, anything more and they're trying it on as it's an old set now. The Mk1 and Mk2 without the G means there's no UHF, but if that ain't your thing then no big deal. I also have an elderly Yaesu 757GX Mk1 that's widebanded (flick an internal switch) and works very, very well on 11m, it was a lot of radio in it's day, but realistically about a £150 set now, and with a nice FM it works well on the muppet band too.
I also used to buy and sell 747's, they too are great on 11m but the FM board was an option and you will have to stump up about £70 for an FM board on a £120 radio if it doesn't come with one.
The Yaesu FT-857D is more modern and more expensive, too many menus for me, but I would give its little brother the FT-817 a swerve as it's a QRP portable set.
This is my personal opinion, but I don't like the entry level Alincos, they can be had cheap but I found them to be poor on sensitivity and selectivity, the audio was harsh and they just look a mess.

Check this out, I don't know him personally, but he is a respected member of TM1.
