I have one, its not all that bad but if you compare it to a average export radio wel uhm...
I dont want to say its garbage but its not good.
Its cheaply build with cheap plastic out of a bad mold which has been overused, the battery pack is anoyingly flimsy( watch that tiny fragile contact between the two halves).
The plastic has been spray painted and scratches easily which is dissapointing but even more stupid: its black paint on black plastic, why o why?
The controls do not all work as once intended and some options of the original design (like the magnum) dont work as this is a cept radio which can be opened up while the magnum is a ham 10-12 meter radio which can be wide banded to 11 meter, these are two different things which will be clear if you read the magnum manual and try to use the radio like the magnum, which it cant, reading the manum manual it also becomes clear why the albrecht controls have some quirks.
This radio would certainly benefit from a magnum firmware flash( if that would be possible)

The receiver is not bad , hooking it up to my gainmaster gives about the same results on 555 as my old grant and lincoln2, with the standard wip you will receive nothing or close to nothing, with a decent groundless mobile wip like the one from sirio i got italy spain and france on 555 standing at about 10 meter above sealevel.
Its about 115 cm long and needs a pl to bnc adapter so you have to be really carefull with it or maybe the housing socket will break....

The tx is another story, you have to keep the clarifier on zero or audio will distort on ssb en swing of frequency.
This radio absolutly needs nickel cadmium batterys ( like the magnum is sold complete with nicads) or the expensive very high power nimh, the "always charged" types nimh like eneloop, ready2use,alkaline etc will not deliver enough current for 4 watt, nicads will do but are a dying breed so you its almost impossible to find high power nicads most still sold are 1000 mAh.
Bying the expensive nimh is a gamble as even these strugle to deliver the required power.
Or use the car adapter and hook it up to a powerfull enough 12 volt battery.

Opening up the battery pack every time you need to charge the batteries will break it at some point and is also quite annoying as the space for the AA 's is just a tiny bit to small and taking them out the box will sometimes strip the plastic sleeve of your expensive nimh/nicad ,so it is wise to get a second battery pack and the charge adapter or charge base so you dont have to open it every time.

I am happy with it but regret not getting the magnum.
