Good stuff. Can't wait to get mine up and running. I would suggest to anybody that bought them not to use the cable that comes with them. It's pure rubbish. A branded POFC cable of some degree will improve the signal tenfold from the microphone. I took the xlr plug off and binned it

Agreed. A decent xlr cable was only £3 odd.
Its quite convenient that with the mixer all levels set for 0db, (except mic gain at minimum, -10db), fed into the 857 data port with gain set at 50 (mid way) is the perfect setting for general ragchew.
The behringer mixer 'compressor' does seem to raise the overall ssb power without too much Italian style distortion.

Yeah. I'm hoping the data port on me 920 will pass audio. Manual is a bit sketchy on the subject...

That sounds perfectly feasible. The mixer I bought has a USB connection to connect to a laptop in order to send the audio and back for 'effects'. This then becomes another channel to mix in or out.

Re: Brand new studio mics for under £20!!
Should work George, I have always ran these sort mic's through a Mixer/Pre-amp with some EQing through ACC/DATA ports on my radio's.Irishman1127 wrote:Yeah. I'm hoping the data port on me 920 will pass audio. Manual is a bit sketchy on the subject...
I have used TS-870, TS-850, FT-990, FT-950, IC-706, IC-7000, IC-746 and others that I can't remember. Best results have been one the TS-870, TS-850, IC-7000 and FT-950.
The problem with running these microphone's through the front is that the filters in the radio limit the mic capabilities so you will probably lose certain frequencies. Generally going through the rear ACC/Data ports by passes the filters and allows for a greater TX audio frequency range and bandwidth.
Unfortunately it isn't true for all radios but it costs nothing to give it a go.

Re: Brand new studio mics for under £20!!
Yes it kind of defeats the purpose of processing the audio externally only to squeeze it back in through the front jack and filters and amp. That's why I don't like this w2ihy character charging a fortune for his ibox. I mean why bother going to all those rounds but then to undo it all in through the front mic jack. It should work Andy. I'll be testing it soon

Re: Brand new studio mics for under £20!!
Ideally you will connect the mic to the mixer to use as a pre-amp.
Connect the mixer to CH1 of the 2200 to downward expand which cancels unwanted background noise.
Next you would ideally go into an EQ.
And then, you will go into CH2 of the 2200 to compress.
Finally into the radio.
If you are going into the front expect all your hard work setting up to be for nothing when the radio's filters cancel it all out.
If you are going into the rear via an ACC/DATA port then all should sound good.
What radio you using?

thinking of getting 2.
one for the vhf set, one for hf set.
just wondering, do they fit the boom mic extensions ok.
and are all boom extensions for mics the same fitting, are they standard. just a query before
