Post by Dragon Man »

hey ppl i just got to say this is the first time i have taken a CB radio over sea's with me its well good
but the best bit was when i was comeing back..
i managed to get a 450 - 500 mile copy from germany to cornwall on a HAND HELD!!
yes a m0ther f**k**g hand held!!
"Candy man" (his handel) got me at 7 db on it

never used "skip" befor.
on my hand held i would be lucky to get the ppl down the street letalone cornwall
that was when i was out walking around a german gas station..
when i got back to the car i fired up meh old ham international on a (guhh) 1 ft base loaded modulater airel, and got truckers on the A38 (wich runs pased my house)
i got 5-6 copyes in total
lol as u can tell i'm kinda exstatic about it >_< xD

if any one can give me loads of info on "the skip" lol please do
is there any way of forcasting it?
can i pic it up anywhere? (im in the Midlands of the uk derby)
and if someone can tell me were i can get a SSB radio from please do..

Thanx PPL!! :D:D

Hi Riddler - the 'skip' you got such good results from was 'sporadic E' propagation. It happens when ionised patches appear in the atmosphere and reflect radio waves over long distances. Even weak, low power transmissions can come booming in!
I don't think it can be predicted, but it happens most often between May and August.
